Signs That Birthmarks Should Be Removed
Most babies are born with a birthmark and the removal of them are not really recommended at least until the child is about two (2) years old. This is because some of the marks can fade on its own. The lovingly referred to as stork’s bites, however, may also cause health hazards or even cause an embarrassment. The marks can also promote the formation of newer blood vessels which makes it grow deeper into the skin.
Such kind of development can be a factor for the mark to be removed surgically or through laser procedure. But further examination of the birthmarks must be done in order to choose which kind of technique will suit best. Sometimes, surgical intervention is not really needed as certain marks already respond to corticosteroid injections. This helps make the marks fade and reduce the size of it until eventually it will almost be invisible.
Another sign that a birthmark has to be removed is that if it is raised like in the so called strawberry birthmarks. And if they are already interfering with hearing, vision or causing any other problems, immediate treatment and removal is needed to provide solution to the problem and not let it be aggravated more.
The birthmarks should also be removed if it is already been determined to be caused by pigmentation disorder. You can use the ABCD guideline in terms of birthmarks which means the Asymmetry, Border, Color and Diameter. Check on the birthmark or birthmarks of your child and if you are noticing that the shape, size or color of it changes then it is enough for you to have a dermatologist to evaluate it.
The affectionately called angel’s kiss may be harmful in most cases but there is nothing wrong if it has to be removed. Just make sure that if you will have the procedure for your child, the marks were properly examined by a certified dermatologist and then and expert will do the removal process. No simple mark is work risking the health and even the life of your child so try to find the best that you can.
